OpSail Boston 2012

July 4th
and
Navy Week
2012
in
Boston !

A wonderful way to begin summer fun in the sun

This day long outing began by catching the Quincy ferry into Boston, then walking 'Harbor Walk' to view many of the 'Tall Ships' that arrived in Boston Harbor of a week long celebration!
********
It is a very busy port !

Ferry Center is the place to go for making connections to other fun destinations. Off to Salem maybe, or many of the harbor islands.   All fun times for sure.

Our stroll began along Boston's 'Warbor Walk', a designated pedestrian walkway along the waters edge. There are spectacular views of the Boston Harbor and all of it's boating traffic.

There are all kinds of boats !
There are sailboats...

  Ferryboats...

Police boats...

 Even ANGRY boats !

**********
But we were here to see the really BIG boats.
There were beautiful Tall Ships from all over the world.

The many
sails & flags made for interesting and colorful sights not often seen in the harbors of today

We continued our walk toward the
USS WASP.

The USS Wasp is the lead ship of a class of multipurpose amphibious assault ship.

The Navy-Marine Corps team's amphibious war ship has as its primary mission the support of a Marine Landing Force.
******************************

The USS WASP can accommodate Landing Craft, Harrier II Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing jets which provide close-in air support for the assault force as well as the full range of Navy and Marine Corps helicopters, conventional landing craft and amphibious vehicles.

Our trek wasn't over yet, we had to walk --- back !
Still the sights were beautiful, the sun was shining and we could basically 'see' lunch up ahead !
****
More sights of the day !

YEP,
even a cruise ship got into the parade of the day !

A GOOD DAY --> YES !
