Visiting Masterpieces @ the MFA

The MFA welcomes two monumental loans from the Musée d'Orsay, Paris

********~~~********~~~********

Renoir's Dance in the City
and
 Dance in the Country

As part of theVisiting Masterpieces series,
these full-length canvases accompany the MFA's own iconic Renoir,
Dance at Bougival.

All three paintings, depicting couples in urban and rural settings, were created by the artist in the same year.

Renoir’s colorful Impressionist style, full of verve and daring, captures the fashion and pastimes of his contemporaries.
Don’t miss the experience of a lifetime viewing this glorious trio of paintings,
* together *
at the MFA -- Boston
for the first time in a generation.

~*~ Saving the Goddess ~*~

Museum of Fine Arts
acquires a colossal Roman statue

The MFA-BOSTON recently acquired the largest classical sculpture in the United States: a colossal marble statue of the goddess Juno, 13 feet tall and weighing 13,000 pounds. First inventoried in Rome in the 17th century, it was acquired by a wealthy Bostonian in the late 19th century who shipped it home to a garden on a Brookline estate.
There Juno stayed until late 2011 when the MFA took possession of her.

The rediscovery and rescue of an ancient sculpture of this scale is momentous.          Juno will eventually reign over this future gallery.

At the Museum, Juno is undergoing conservation in view of the public.

The goddess is located in the
George D. and Margo Behrakis Gallery #207.
*****
Juno will eventually reign over this future gallery dedicated to:
Gods, Goddesses, and Heroes of Ancient Greece and Rome.

Summer 2012

Provincetown in the summer ----> FUN !

Riding the Plymouth-to-Provincetown ferry is always a fun adventure, especially when the destination is.... Provincetown.

Take the Express Route to Provincetown and get there in half the time it would take to drive. Enjoy a narrated tour of historic Plymouth Harbor as we get under way, followed by a fast, comfortable ride across Cape Cod Bay.
There are many pleasure boats to see along the way.

Once you arrive in P'Town, there are many fine restaurants with views of the busy harbor.

There is always time to discover a variety of unique shops but it's always a good idea to start with LUNCH at one of the many  restaurants in town.
My favorite...  It was DELICIOUS !

************************ ***********
*************
After lunch,...
browse the galleries of Cape Cod’s renowned artists...

Catch the 'sights' along
Commercial St.
There are many you won't believe.
Enjoy the 'theme' events planned all around town.
take a dip in the pool .. (or not)

... head out to the world-famous National Seashore.

OR just enjoy being a tourist

Relax, it's summer.

You’ve got all day to enjoy the town, as long as you are back on board the boat by 4:15 to return to Plymouth.
