Paavli Jumppanen,
piano
*
Pianist Paavali Jumppanen "performs with immense power and drive, and commands an extraordinary range of colors,” writes The New York Times. “The piano sings beautifully, but with a voice that is big and full of expressive possibilities.” Jumppanen has presented solo recitals at New York’s Carnegie Hall and Washington’s Kennedy Center, and has toured Australia with the Melbourne Symphony to critical acclaim.
Born in Finland, Jumppanen won first prize in the country’s national Maj Lind Competition in Helsinki at age nineteen, and has played with every orchestra in Finland. A strong proponent of new music, Jumppanen has recorded the complete piano sonatas of Pierre Boulez.

This was not a violin recital with piano accompaniment, but a splendid performance of chamber music. Cerovsek and Jumppanen communicated on a deeper level than many musicians performing together; the resulting sounds were precisely placed, with shared attack and articulation, matched phrasing, a vibrancy of character throughout, and a shared vision of the music’s large-form architecture. This was a truly uncanny collaboration of two musicians who each possess great technique coupled with a high standard of musicianship.
... it keeps getting better and better !
